We visited Uruguay for a few days (to get our Argentine visas renewed!). The ferry over the Rio de la Plata was just 3 hours and fairly smooth. The farewell views of Buenos Aires were superb.
Colonia itself is a lovely little town with a small "old town" full of Portuguese colonial architecture. We had a fabulous three days there and spent a lot of time on the beaches, getting rather too much sun. The sunburn is a little sore!!
A couple of miles away is the "folly" of Real de San Carlos. We walked up the rambla in the blazing heat and saw the old bullring which is sadly crumbling away. It's also sealed so you can't even get inside now. What a waste. Still, it was a nice walk and we then relaxed on the clean white sandy beach.
In the end it seemed a shame leaving all of that behind and returning to the hustle and bustle of city life and job hunting!

The sad sight of the decaying bullring
And I thought Brighton's West Pier was in a state of decay!
A tale of two sunsets.
Hard to believe it can change so much on two successive evenings.
